A pediatric dental emergency can be stressful, especially when a child is hurt or in pain. Our Redondo Beach pediatric dental office will help determine whether a problem needs immediate attention, and existing families know that Dr. Carroll makes herself available for urgent after-hours questions.
Common pediatric dental emergencies include toothaches, swelling, broken or chipped teeth, injuries from sports or falls, knocked-out teeth, loose or displaced teeth after trauma, and problems involving an existing restoration.
For a knocked-out permanent tooth, time matters. Avoid touching the root and contact a dentist immediately for instructions. A knocked-out baby tooth is handled differently and should not be replanted by a parent.
Facial swelling with fever, difficulty swallowing, difficulty breathing, significant uncontrolled bleeding, or serious facial trauma may require urgent medical evaluation rather than routine dental care.
Because Dr. Carroll treats children exclusively, the office is accustomed to helping parents sort out both the dental problem and the practical question every parent has in the moment: ‘What do we need to do right now?’
